Mission to Romania

Not Such Great News

Dear Family and Friends,

We have so many challenges in Romania right now and we really need your prayers.  Daniel and I are in the USA at the moment and we have been traveling several weeks.  Almost two weeks ago, one of our new women at Agape Home abandoned her two children in the middle of the night and is refusing to come back to raise them.  The photo was taken just days before she left.

Unfortunately, our local Child Protection has not acted legally and has just left the children at Agape Home for Flori to take care of even though we are not legally allowed to act as an orphanage!  I talked to Flori today and to say she is overwhelmed is an understatement.  We have two American women that are working with our ministry this month in Romania and one of them, Rosanna, has graciously taken on much of the responsibility of the two children but the children have been screaming most of the day and the night for their mother so you can imagine that everyone’s nerves are raw right now.  We ask you to specifically pray for Flori and Nicu as their vacation isn’t until September and they really need a break from everything now but they have tons of garden work to do in addition to the constant work of raising and slaughtering chickens.

In addition to this, Romania is experiencing a record high heat wave due to a front that has hit from Africa.  Our administrator, Georgy, told me that many people have fallen very ill and many of the elderly and the very young have died from exposure and temperatures their bodies just couldn’t cope with.  She has asked me to put a portable air conditioner in the office and two at Agape Home but we really need extra funding to come in for this.  All three would cost about $1,700 for the three units and that is really stretching things for us at the moment.

Our newest woman at Agape Home is pictured here very pregnant and very miserable.

Poor girl!  She is way overdue her original due date and I am not sure how much longer the doctor will have before inducing the birth.  She has been very sick to the smell of all the chickens being slaughtered as well.  I am thankful at the dedication she has to keeping her child.  Our social worker, Neli, told me she is very excited about the baby even though no one in her family yet knows.  Please pray for her to have a healthy, quick birth.

I found out two days ago that my car did not get fixed and the mechanic had it a month.  It can be driven but it is damaging to do so and there is an immediate electrical problem that is going to be very expensive to repair.  We ask you to pray for The Lord to work a miracle for my car.

I hope to have more positive news to share with you the next time I write but we would really appreciate your prayers for what has been mentioned.  One HUGE praise report for Daniel and I personally is this house.

Bethlehem Baptist Church gave us this wonderful house to stay in for this visit to the USA and any future visits providing other missionaries aren’t staying in it.  It is such a charming house with so much character!  And, since we are their missionaries to stay here, we are blessed to have so many new things that they went out and bought in addition to making sure the house was furnished.  They have made us feel so welcome and loved!  We just love being here and we are dangerously close to a Wal-Mart and Mexican restaurants!!!

We are excited to see all of our friends in Charleston this weekend and next week.  Our drop-in is this Sunday from 3 - 5 p.m.  We can’t wait to see everyone again!

May The Lord bless you for supporting us in prayer!
Basking in the Son,
Michelle
