This scripture shares with us the deception of the serpent (Satan), mankind’s choice to obey God, and the fellowship man had with God, Himself. In chapter 3 is seen the spiritual death of mankind because of his sin before God through disobedience. In this section let us look at verse 15. God, Himself, is The Judge of all the participants involved in this situation and to all of us because sin has brought spiritual death to all mankind (see Romans 3:23; 15:45). Let us at God’s provision of hope for salvation for mankind.
In the midst of mankind’s death and God’s pronouncement of curses, He prophesies about the salvation that will come for mankind. Man’s sin was not too much for God to handle. He knew exactly what needed to be done. He says, “I will put enmity between your seed and her seed.” NASB. This is prophesying of the virgin birth. It was not the seed of man but the “seed” of God by The Spirit through Mary (see Matthew 1:18). Therefore Jesus The Messiah was sinless. He was fully God in the flesh. We read in Philippians 2:6 that Jesus was in the form of God but came as a servant.
In the second part of the verse, God prophesies of the victory over the evil one by the bruise on the head and bruising the Messiah will receive on the heal. Let us look at the latter first. We see in greater detail the bruising in Isaiah 53. Then fulfillment of these words in the gospels when Jesus was crucified on the cross. He would die to take our sins upon Himself so that we could be freed from the death that sin had brought. (See Isaiah 53:6; 1 John 2:2; 4:10) To take a blow to the heel is not that significant. It might slow one down but it will heal.
The victory of God over death was demonstrated in the resurrection of Jesus The Messiah from the dead. (See Matthew 28:6) This is the bruising of the serpent on the head. He not only took our sins upon Himself, but He gave us life in rising from the dead by the power of God. See (Rom 6:4; 6:9)
This truth is shared with us in the beginning by God, Himself. He wanted the world to know that He had a hope for them to be saved from the destruction of sin caused by disobedience. The question for us is do we truly believe in the provision that He has provided for us to live again in the spirit?
Lord may you continue to reveal the depthness of your truth with us.
Salvation in Jesus The Messiah, alone,
Daniel
