Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 is a beautiful chapter of prophecy about The Messiah, the coming Savior. We read later in the gospels that Jesus is The Messiah that was prophesied about in the Old Testament. In this section of scripture, God shares through the prophet Isaiah that Jesus would grow up before Him (v2), be despised by people (v3), will take the punishment for sins of the world (v4-8), was righteous (v9), willing to die for our sins (v10), and will live and rule after death (v11-12).

Let us look at the second part in verse 6. “But The Lord has caused the iniquity (sin) of us all to fall on Him.” NASB Look at the crucial words here “The Lord has caused=94 It was God who placed our sins upon Jesus. He is the only One who is capable of doing this. We are not able to take our sins and give them away. Only God is able to supernaturally take and move the penalty of sin to another. This is what He did. He literally took our sins and the penalty of those sins, which is spiritual death, and placed them on Jesus.

How wonderful it is to know that God looks at those who acknowledge they need Him as sinless because he has taken all our sins (past, present, and future) and placed them on Jesus. We are not guilty before Him any longer because of this.

He has restored our relationship with Himself. We could not live lives worthy or righteous enough because of sin. He came and took our sins and the penalty of our sins from us and placed them on Himself.

The Bible tells us that it is through faith (which believes what God says is true) we are righteous. It is trusting in His promise that was fulfilled in Jesus The Messiah. Through His death the sins (iniquity) of the world were placed on Him. He was the sacrifice needed to pay for the sins of the world and He redeemed those who believe and trust in Him and what He has done.

What does this mean for us? If you believe this truth from God, He covers your sins. The judgment of sin has already been placed on Jesus. This means that God looks at us and sees us as righteous. We no longer fear the judgment of sin from God because Jesus took that judgment for us but, now, we can enjoy the restored relationship that we have with God and come into His presence boldly and without fear.

Let us praise God together for personally taking our sins and the penalty of those sins, which is death, away from us and giving us life and relationship with Him. Thank You, Jesus, for willingly dying for us to give us life with You eternally.
