Dear Family and Friends,
Last night, all three of my roommates/co-workers and the boyfriend of Estie, were in a serious car accident. Emilia was driving and she hit another car head-on with seven passengers. Praise God that no one will killed. Emilia is still in the hospital today with seven stitches and a mild concussion. I stayed with her in the hospital last night and I must tell you that it was nothing like I have ever seen. When I arrived to see her at 9:30 p.m., there were roaches covering her bedside table and wall. I purchased bug spray to keep them at bay but they were impervious to its chemicals. Please pray hard that she be released from that facility soon. A doctor from Beius is coming tomorrow to pick up medical supplies and I will ask him to examine her.
The other three people in our car and the other car are doing fine with minor cuts and sore muscles. Our car is totaled and still sitting outside our window with blood all down the side of the door…a grim reminder of God’s mercy and faithfulness in sparing our lives yesterday. I was supposed to be in the car with them but decided to ride with someone else because the other girls wanted to wait for Estie and her boyfriend. I have grappled with the guilt and given it completely to God. Emilia had just received her license this past Monday and she should not have been driving the car without me since I have much more experience than anyone else. Praise God that He is in control.
Please continue to pray for Emilia. I am told that they opened a “file” against her for the accident. This means that she could be charged criminally and it will remain on her record. Translation….serious problems with her doing anything inside or outside the country if this charge remains. In fact, it could mean jail if the other family pursues this. Please, please pray about this. She is worrying but I have told her that I has peace and that God is going to resolve everything.
I know that God was among our car yesterday. When Estie ran to the house to tell me of the news, I was in the shower. Estie was hysterical and she did not know if Emilia was alive…there was much blood covering Emilia. At first, I ran out of the house with only a towel until my neighbor pointed at me. I promptly ran back and threw on a dress. In the panic, no one could speak English to me. Claudiu, Esti’s boyfriend, told me in English that Emilia was in the McDonald’s washing off the blood. He then turned to run and find Estie. At that moment, a very sweet woman told me that she was originally Romanian but had been living in Canada for 18 years. She asked me could she help and when I heard the policeman start screaming for the driver of our car, I asked her to please tell him that she was bleeding badly and in the McDonalds. She grabbed my hand and approached the policeman explaining that the people in the car were my friends and the driver was hurt but still at the scene. She told him that I did not speak Romanian but that I had told her to tell him this. He thanked me and went to the other car. I saw Emilia emerge from the McDonald’s so I went to help her into the ambulance. I turned to thank the sweet woman who had helped me and she was gone. No trace of her on any side of the street or around the cars. Yes, I do believe there are angels among us. They were protecting my friends yesterday and assisting me as I called upon the name of Jesus. Please pray that they continue to minister to us during this tragic situation.
Basking in the Son,
Michelle
